Sober Living homes often require residents to attend a certain number of support group meetings (such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous) each week, as well as live by the rules of the house.  This semi-structured environment has been shown to help recovering addicts regain control of their lives and prepare them for the world at large.  Staying in a Sober Living home after a successful rehab stay has been shown to greatly reduce the likelihood of relapse back in the drug or alcohol addiction they were suffering from.
